Hoses made of different rubber materials have several advantages that make them an important part of industrial use. However, as flexible and durable as they are, certain materials and impacts can significantly shorten the life of a rubber hose. Therefore, the following recommendations outline key considerations and precautions for industrial rubber hose storage.

Industrial rubber hose storage: different rubber hoses - Izoflex

Industrial rubber hose storage: proper conditions

Store hoses in a relaxed state, free from tension, compression or other deformation and avoid contact with objects that could puncture or cut them. Hoses should be stored on special shelves or dry surfaces. Avoid hanging coiled hoses on rods or hooks, and transport hoses in a straight, horizontal position without bending whenever possible.

Temperature and humidity

The ideal temperature for storing rubber hoses is between +10 and +25 degrees Celsius. Avoid temperatures above 40°C or below 0°C. If the temperature is below -15°C, precautions should be taken during handling. Rubber hoses should not be stored near heat sources or in high or low humidity. A maximum humidity of 65% is recommended.

Light exposure

Hoses should be stored in a dark place, away from direct sunlight or strong artificial light. If the storage rooms have windows or glass openings, use shades to block light.

Protection from oxygen and ozone

Rubber hoses must be protected from circulating air. Since ozone is particularly aggressive to all rubber products, the warehouse should not contain ozone-generating materials such as high-voltage electrical equipment, electric motors or other materials that can cause sparks or electric arcs.

Contact with other materials

Rubber hoses must not come into contact with solvents, fuels, oils, greases, volatile chemical mixtures, acids, disinfectants and other organic liquids in general. In addition, direct contact with certain metals (e.g. manganese, iron, copper and its alloys) and relative mixtures also have adverse effects on certain types of rubber. Contact with PVC and creosote-impregnated wood or fabrics should also be avoided.

Rodents and insects

Rodents and insects are enemies of rubber hoses. Ensure hoses are stored in a rodent- and insect-free environment. Where such a risk is likely, appropriate precautions should be taken.

Marking or packaged items

Hoses should always be easily identifiable, even when packaged. They must be checked for integrity before dispatch and should be fit for the intended use. Used hoses should be cleaned before storage. Especially those that have transported chemicals, explosives, flammable, abrasive and corrosive substances. The integrity of the hose should be checked after cleaning.
